He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe. — Marcus Aurelius

Oh yes, there’s more. So much more! Driver San Francisco, Halo Reach, Lara Croft & the Guardians of Light, Bulletstorm, Portal 2, Brink, Star Wars : The Old Republic, Shank, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, Civilization V and Fallout New Vegas. Is that more enough for ya? Huh? IS IT? I asked you a question!!!!

Driver San Francisco – Where to begin with this…how about, what kind of weed are they smoking in the studio? You’re a cop named Tanner from the first Driver. Your rival from the second game, Jericho is…well, your enemy here too. You drive through San Francisco, smashing up stuff in alleys and the like. Now, if your quarry loses you during a chase, you can ‘shift’ in to other cars at a moment’s notice and now you drive that. How can you do that? Well, it’s because you’re in a coma. None of this is real, it’s just a big fever dream being experienced by a coma patient. The mechanic offers some neat options…shift in to a truck coming from the other way and go head on with the guy you’re chasing…but I cannot get past that plot. Seriously, who comes up with that? It’s like one of those terrible “It was all a dream” movie things, but they’re telling you that right off the start. Bizarre.

Our hero is about to blow a tire running over that Driver logo. Not so surprising, seeing as he's already driving comatose...

Halo Reach – It’s the…5th? 6th?…game in the series. The guy’s saying it’s the most ambitious game Bungie has ever made. Of course, at a show like this, that’s as significant as that chick from the bar that you hooked up with only having a mild case of herpes. Well, let’s see what they’ve got (Bungie, not the chick with the venereal issues). Did that make sense? It’s offensive and makes me chuckle…if it makes sense, that’s a bonus.

Okay, it definitely appears that you’re an early model Spartan this time, so you look more vulnerable. The Elites look pretty vicious this time…decent shots, and they aren’t afraid to charge into a melee with that energy sword. Actually, the Covenant AI as a whole seems to be using some good squad mechanics, giving each other cover fire and the like. Damn! Melee fighting has most definitely received a boost! Knife to the throat for the win! What the…was that trooper the EA Sports “It’s in the game!” guy? Holy shit…space combat? Very cool! Okay, there’s potential here. It looks varied enough that it might be worth looking at.

I'm sorry...shouldn't have said that! I'm sure your mother's a delightful woman!

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light – You play a pair of tits who does some spelunking or something. Okay, major shift here to a sort of Action-RPG 3/4 view, and the focus is on 2 player co-op play. Now there’s some sort of rolling ball that can be used throughout the game in different ways…so the focus is still on spheres, just those of a different kind. And…yeah, I just don’t care. It really does have a nice look to it and I give them credit for shaking this tired franchise up, but I just think it’s played out. I don’t know if anyone is interested in this anymore, aside from the creepy 39 year old perverts who wanna see them some nudie pixels.

Why are we fighting each other...she's over there!

E3 Day 3 - The Games Part 1

Rather than judge companies harshly, why not judge their games? I’m obviously not going to talk about everything…there’s too much stuff here that I don’t care about AND can’t mock. I’ll cover everything on the live feed, and hunt out some other stuff I’m interested in if I’m hitting a lull. Christ, no lulls! This got lengthy…so much so that I’ve split it in to two parts. Anyway, I talk about the following games in [...]

Let’s see what they have up their sleeves… Reggie Fils-Aime stating the blatantly obvious. Gaming buzz is in the air, eh? Astounding. Way to figure out basic facts, Reg. “Technology is a tool…the end product is the experience. Technology and game design need to be perfectly matched.” I actually completely agree with him. Nintendo going in the direction they have to…they can’t match the pure horsepower of the PS3 or the 360, so they’ll focus [...]

Day two E3 thoughts - Sony

More geekish thoughts on geekish stuff, probably shared in a geekish matter. By a geek. Nintendo’s press event was earlier, but I missed most of it. I’m going back to watch it now. Meanwhile, Sony went on and on and on, so it has to be a post all by itself. Sony – It’s all about the ‘synergy’ and the ‘entertainment hub’ and every other douchey industry term for one device that does everything. And [...]

Woohoo! More gaming shit! Especially for those of you who have sat through the approximately 7,300 thoughts I’ve had on Twitter today regarding the show. And as an added treat, I’m re-using some of those tweets here. Warmed over stuff…YEAH! It’s only a few more days…SUCK IT UP. Microsoft – Main announcement, aside from more sequels (Liked it before? You’ll like it again! Sequel City! Gears of War 3! Call of Duty 79!) it was [...]

Game I want NOW – Naughty Bear

Yes, it’s called Naughty Bear. No, it doesn’t involve bestiality. Naughty Bear is the store of a disgruntled outsider from the Teddy Bears Picnic. He’s mad, he has a cleaver, and he’s not taking it any more. You aim for naughty points, with those being scored for everything from smashing a window to eviscerating a teddy bear in front of his family. Seriously. Trap a bear in a refrigerator. Slam his face down on to [...]

What I’m playing – Team Fortress 2

Sure, 99% of the free world is already aware of this game, but it’s a good time to talk about it since it’s a free weekend, and the game’s on sale! I’m going to drop some of the ‘Meet the classes!’ videos in to this post because they amuse me. Put quite simply, TF2 is the single best multiplayer shooter I’ve ever played. It’s fun, it’s amusing, it doesn’t take itself too seriously and it’s [...]

Some more thoughts on Green Lantern

It’s been a little while, and with time and a lot of comic conversations over the weekend, I have some final thoughts on the Green Lantern universe. Also, most of my previous posts focused on the stuff that I thought was a mess. Since I actually DIDN’T hate everything I thought I should perhaps mention some of the things that I liked about the Green Lantern world and the Blackest Night. That paragraph right there [...]

The Blackest Night – thoughts, impressions, complaints, stuff

So, the Blackest Night. It began with the Green Lantern universe (which I’ve rather mercilessly hacked apart earlier), but then expanded beyond that. There was a Superman arc, an arc with The Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman, Titans and JSA…I had to look that up, for fuck’s sake. Turns out it’s the Justice Society of America. That’s a terrible group name. It sounds like a collection of rubes who should be ‘patrolling’ the Mexican border, armed [...]

Some thoughts on Green Lantern

Yeah, THAT’S a title guaranteed to send the pussy fleeing! So, part of the next Violent Aggression podcast is going to feature a discussion about comics. Part of that discussion will center on Green Lantern, specifically a series called ‘Blackest Night’, which also features some side stories involving other DC comic characters. Since James wanted someone else to have a damn clue what that’s all about, he loaned me a bag of comics to read [...]
