Quick hitters

Because that’s all that I have the motivation for today. See? No drive to write anything longer but I STILL put something up for you guys. I just care too much. That’s the problem.

-The Philadelphia Eagles look grossly overrated to me. I’m not impressed by that overall defense, their offensive line doesn’t look great, and I think they’re ranked behind Green Bay, New Orleans and Atlanta in that conference. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t end up winning their division.

-The Carolina Panthers have no clue what the fuck they’re doing in free agency. What an absolutely horrible front office that organization has.

-I’m participating in a 20 team fantasy football league this year. Frankly, that’s just stupid. Nobody is going to have anyone on their bench at all. Might be interesting, though.

-My computer is in shipment! My mouse isn’t. It was on sale and they saw a ton of demand, and they ran out before getting to my order. So, they’ll ship it at no charge when it’s back in stock. But in the meantime, I’m stuck either just having a really neat box I can look at, or running down and buying a cheap piece of crap mouse to tide me over. SHOCKING that I’ll probably take option #2. :)

-I also have to install my video card myself. It’s so heavy that they recommend having their techs remove it and put it back in it’s own packaging for shipment. Otherwise, a good jolt can actually snap off the lower portion of the PCI slot that it’s plugged in to. AWESOME. Anyway, it’s an easy thing to install…and it will make for good blog post fodder to boot! Woo!

-I’m trying to decide which graphics heavy game I’ll install and crank up first. Dead Rising 2 with a lotta zombies on screen is one, then maybe Far Cry 2. Oh, and Napoleon Total War and Just Cause 2. Mother of fuck do I need me some graphics.

-Though my board game posts have thus far been largely positive, I HAVE bought some that were duds. That post is still to be written, but it will be. No matter how much research you do in to something before making a buy, you can still end up with a flop. Luckily, it isn’t hard to find willing trade partners in board game land.

-I’m considering Arkham Horror the next time I make an order (probably not for awhile, yet). But that game kinda scares me, man. There is A LOT of shit in that box. A LOT of cards, tokens and rules with sub rules and blah blah blah. So I dunno. And this is coming from a guy who likes wargames with suppression and artillery spotting rules and tanks with different armor for front, flank and rear attacks (and different armor for hull vs. turret hits).

-I couldn’t want Battlefield 3 more than I do. It wouldn’t be possible.

-I really don’t know what to do regarding the job. I really don’t. I’ve never been as disgusted and disappointed with any corporation I’ve worked for as I am with this one…and yet, I genuinely get along with pretty much everybody at the local level, and they all do a great job and are fun to work with. But how long until the corporation makes another shockingly stupid move? How long will all of the great people at the local level stay around? So what to do? I think I need to take a few days off in a month or two and spend some time brooding on that. In the meantime, just survive.

-Am I the only blog challenge participant who finds himself writing these in bursts? Some nights, I’ve got nothing. Other nights, I’m exploding with ideas and write up my posts for the next 3 days. And I have started writing in the evening. Doing so after work was just a mess. “Hey, I’m tired, cranky, dirty and hot…let’s sit down and write!”

-I ended my subscription to XM radio some time ago due to disappointment in changes in their programming, particularly their music stations. Now, after several months of being in a work environment where I’m once again exposed to local radio…maybe I was too hasty. Remember when Sonic seemed fresh and interesting? Now it’s 80% hipster bullshit (Full credit to Chad for that accurate description). They also repeat songs through the day more than anybody else. Just awful. I’m also rapidly being reminded of why everyone got such a hate on for Nickelback in the first place…THEY’RE INESCAPABLE! Constantly in rotation. Finally, Limp Bizkit might have actually gotten worse with age. Their new song is among the shittiest things I’ve ever heard. Oh, and it’s well past time for the Chili Peppers to retire, cause they’ve got nothing left.

-Attention hardcore left wingers (political, not hockey) : you are no better or less obnoxious than hardcore right wingers…you’re the same shit in a different pile. All of you really just need to shut the fuck up, because you’re all wrong.

That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

For nothing to say you still said a lot.  I go in burst as well.  Sometimes I have a few topics in a row to write about and then a lull.  When the lulls come I will just write about my day, thus, I am cooking peaches post.  It’s not exciting but it’s how we roll.  Hang in on the job, finding a bunch of people you like to work with is worth way more than a dysfunctional organization.  My company does one dumb ass thing after another, especially since our head office is now in the U.S.  It’s when you co-workers suck ass that its just not worth it : )

I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed with Sonic. They started out being pretty good before they traipsed off into hipster land.

Well, it’s not like I’m going to walk out this week or anything…I will see what’s going to happen. But if nothing is progressing and/or the good workmates start walking out the door, I will probably be leaving as well.

So much potential has turned in to so much repeat crap.

If it wasn’t for “bursts” and random posts I would have been out days ago! I think sometimes our brain just needs to purge itself of all the small, irrelevant stuff in order to get to the bigger picture. I really enjoyed reading these bursts-  having just left an “evil” corporation myself (despite having gotten along well at the local level), I understand the difficulties in that choice. I don’t regret my decision at all, but believe that it is a deeply personal one. Best of luck!

Totally agreed on needing to get some of the smaller stuff out to open up space for bigger topics.

The next few months are really going to be pretty massive for me in terms of the job and my future at that company. And the ting is, I am far from the only person there trying to figure out what to do right now. I suspect that any one person deciding it’s time to bail might be the impetus for a lot of other people to follow suit.
