As expected, the government has been ousted. Again.
So we yet again get to enter an election cycle where the same band of idiots will make the same promises they will once again ignore. Nothing has changed. And seriously, is it likely that anything will change? Does anyone expect a momentous shift to occur in the makeup of the new government, or will everybody be getting an incredible feeling of deja vu as basically the same collection of people strolls back in to the House of Commons a few months from now? And if that’s the case…
What was the point? Why are we spending over $300 million on yet another election? So that we can set up another minority government where everyone in parliament spends 2-3 years doing absolutely nothing before it yet again falls and we start this horrendous merry go round all over again?
Does anyone want to be bold enough to predict that more than 30% of the population will even turn out to vote? 25%, even? I’m hardly alone in just not giving a shit anymore. Why bother? This collection of fuckbags clearly doesn’t get it. Your job is to govern…so do it. Oh, we don’t like any of you to give you a majority? Make it work! THAT is your fucking mandate, not ‘bicker pointlessly for a couple of years and not do anything in terms of running the country’! If anyone else in any other line of work was this horrible at their job, they’d be justly fired. But not here. We get the same band of failures all over again. And people are surprised that the populace at large isn’t inspired to turn out and vote? Seriously?
How is it that Jack Layton can lead the NDP to loss after loss after loss and still be at the
head of the party? It doesn’t inspire much confidence in those around him that someone with his record is still the best choice to head things up. It’s possible that Michael Ignatieff vanishes in the night if the Liberals gain no ground, but that party doesn’t exactly seem to be brimming with leadership candidates, either. This is what I find the most infuriating about this…GIVE ME SOME OPTIONS. Clearly, this country doesn’t like Harper enough to give him a majority, and yet the opposition parties are either unwilling or incapable of really putting up a viable alternative. Hell, their promised policies are all starting to blend together these days in to one homogenous mass of vanilla.
We don’t particularly like any of you. ANY OF YOU. If we did, you would have a majority government. If we did, there would be some indicator that a vote windfall would be in your near future. There is no such sign for any of you. So thanks for wasting our time. Thanks for wasting our money. Thanks for being completely and utterly incompetent. Christ, if any of the facts of how this democracy thing actually ‘works’ here were to leak out, I’m pretty sure the Egyptians would be turning out in droves to beg Hosni Mubarak to please come back.
I have often been pissed off or annoyed in the government, or the opposition, or a particular leader. I have never previously been completely disgusted by the entire system of government. I am now. The only real way that I can see anything ever changing is if every single party’s membership decides that enough is enough and launches a sweep and clear operation from top to bottom of their party’s ranks. Until then, meh.
