Normally, they’re cookie cutter nonsense. Oh look! The super powered space marine with the big assault weapon is slaughtering his way through whatever menace (be they genetically modified super soldiers, alien invaders or escaped prisoners. Or perhaps a combo of the 3) because it’s his job, goddammit! He’s Alpha Team, and Alpha Team are HARD. They’re the guys who get the job done when nobody else can blah, blah, blah.
Hell, it’s rare for a GAME these days to manage to tell a story that’s in any way interesting. So for a 3 minute promo trailer to do so is pretty much confirmation that miracles can happen.
I had never previously heard of that game, and had I simply heard the title I would have assumed that it was just another action zombie game. I have no idea what the game itself will turn out to be, but I’m sure as Hell interested now. Christ, that was done well enough that it would have made for a pretty damn compelling movie trailer. I wouldn’t care what medium Dead Island took place in, I would sure as Hell want to be a part of it.
