Holy crap…it ISN’T a football post! Rejoice, readers!
How to make a game that will sell 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,004 copies :
-Ask Telltale Games, long known for their really good (and genuinely funny) episodic series, to make a poker game. Poker still seems to be hot with the kids, so why not?
-Get them the usage rights to four bizarrely mismatched, and fairly well known (in geeky gaming circles), characters – The Heavy from Team Fortress 2, Sam the (somewhat psychotic) mouse in the Sam & Max adventures series, Tycho of Penny Arcade (he’s the blond one) and Strongbad. Now drop the player in as a fifth participant at that poker table.
-Add plenty of often amusing banter between the players, and many insults directed your way should you play like a candy ass.
-Sell the game for $4.99.
-Include extras in the Steam version of the game. Every now and then, a player can’t afford the $10,000 buy in at the table, so they have to put up a piece of gear. A piece of gear that you can earn by knocking them out of the game. A piece of gear that, if you own Team Fortress 2, will now become available for you in that game. There’s a watch for the Spy, a Max Badge for all classes, a handgun for the Scout & Engineer, a new machine gun for the Heavy and a pair of shades for the Demoman.
Profit!
