For those noticing that it’s been very quiet on the Cliff side of things lately, that would be because I’ve been without Internet since sometime last Thursday, when the Telus modem decided to commit suicide. Since Telus doesn’t allow you to just walk in to their stores and exchange for a new one, I’d been waiting for it to show up in the mail. Aaah, Telus. Such convenience.
So, let’s catch up on a few things!
-Having now had to use it, Steam’s offline mode works really well. You start up the client, it says it can’t establish a connection and asks if you’d rather try again, close Steam or go offline. Go offline, then play any Steamworks game without any issues or limits. So if someone tells you that it doesn’t work, they’re fucking lying to you.
-Rifftrax is awesome. I watched a lot of movies…A LOT of movies…and most were Rifftrax. How many? The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Spiderman trilogy. All 6 Star Wars flicks. And those are just the ones in a series. Great stuff. Apparently, there is no such thing as too much Rifftrax.
-Having just re-watched the three of them, I have been reminded how shit-trociously awful those Star Wars prequel flicks are. Good God! Does nobody on his team have the balls to tell George Lucas that he can’t write dialogue?! The original trilogy aren’t exactly Oscar calibre films either, but they weren’t arrogantly stuffed to the brim with long speechifying of weird concepts through dialogue best described as drivel. And what the fuck is with Queen Amidala? You’re in your mid 20’s and have traveled the galaxy and ruled your people, yet you’re totally smitten with the whiny crybaby 16 year old Jedi who just told you he eradicated an entire species?! Get some therapy! Also love how they took The Emperor and essentially turned him in to the Cryptkeeper from Tales From the Crypt during that fight with Yoda in the senate chamber. Ugh.
-I have 65 emails in my Gmail account. This tells me I get a lot of newsletters. Bring on the cull!
-I’m also going to be simplifying things a bit by removing myself from some sites that I realized I have no interest in ever going back to. So thanks for that, Telus?
-I have started my Christmas shopping. Seriously. Oh, you mock now, but I will be the one doing the laughing when December rolls around…BWAHAHAHA!
-Back to movies briefly…I watched The Fog. I had downloaded it on a lark and figured it would be cheezy fun. Instead, I found that I really, really liked it. Very much a statement on humankind. And good lord is the ending depressing. I will declare it a partial victory for evil, and recommend it.
-The degree to which I felt cut off from my fantasy football teams would disturb me if I didn’t already know that I was a pigskin addict. Sadly, it was a 1-3 weekend. Damn you, Telus!
-Those various system updates and required program syncs and the like take awhile to catch up when, don’t they?
-New Twitter followers include a group dedicated to keeping the memory of the Titanic alive, and someone who speaks and types completely in Asian characters that I don’t understand. I really don’t get why either of them were eager to hook in to Cliffco. Am I that awesome or are these poor souls that lonely?
-I’ve been reading a lot of baseball books lately. I don’t know what exactly brought it on, but that’s my subject of interest for the moment I guess.
-I WAS playing a lot of Fallout 3…until I ran in to unending crash to desktop bugs. I was about 32 hours in and really digging it, but for the first time in recent memory I’m shelving a game due to technical glitches. Didn’t matter what adjustments I made, mods I stopped using, and so on…crash city. And since New Vegas uses the same game engine, I guess I’ll be playing it either on my 360 or not at all. Sucky.
-Oh look, Prince what’s his name is marrying that chick he’s been banging for awhile. I suspect that everywhere across Canada, old biddies are absolutely pissing themselves with excitement. Now the push is on to cling to life long enough to be able to name yet another cat the same thing that they name their first kid.
That’ll do, pig…that’ll do.
