I wasn’t a huge fan of Grindhouse. Oh, Planet Terror was fantastic over the top fun. Death Proof, though…ugh.
A really nice Kurt Russell performance was thoroughly wasted. Tarantino made us sit through an hour of blathering nonsense from a bunch of characters…then killed them. It was supposed to make us realize how awful Russell’s character was, but he’d already displayed that by killing someone else. It was unnecessary, and it rendered that hour a complete waste of time as we then started all over again with ANOTHER goddamn collection of ladies. At least this one ended in a fantastic car chase.
Anyway, also highlights during Grindhouse were the fake movie trailers. There was Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS. There was Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving.
One of them was for Machete, a movie that actually came out today.
One of the fake ads won a fan contest…Hobo with a Shotgun. Well, that movie is now actually being made. Rutger Hauer is the hobo. He has a shotgun. And he’s going Travis Bickle upside the world he sees around him.
Rutger Hauer? A man getting his head torn off by a car? Someone mashed in to a puddle of goo by a backhoe shovel? WANT! WAAAAAAAANT!
Also, this possible increases the chances that Rob Zombie’s vision of Werewolf Nazis and a hilariously campy Nic Cage with a Fu Manchu becomes sweet, sweet reality.
