What I’m Playing

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve already been subjected to this. If not, hey…new content! And no, I won’t be live tweeting the others. That was a one time spammage.

And thank goodness for fantasy football for providing a little content. :)

And yes, this was the first draft. I have 2 more of these, but not for a week and a half.

Interesting league structure. You start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 Def/Spec. Teams unit every week. Then there are 3 open spots, one for a WR/TE, the other two for a WR/RB. So there’s a lot of flexibility. That makes things a lot less reliant on featured running backs, especially important as those are beginning to go the way of the dodo.

I was picking 11th.

My draft…

1st Round – RB Rashard Mendenhall (my definite starter. I focused more on receivers from this point on)

2nd – WR Reggie Wayne

3rd – QB Eli Manning (Tony Romo fell until 2 picks before mine)

4th – WR Marques Colston (someone took Justin Forsett in round 4. Yes, really. Sad, I know. Even sadder…it was a live drafter, NOT a weird autodraft pick. Saddest of all…the person is an actual Seahawks fan. I don’t know how that happens.)

5th – TE Jason Witten

6th – WR Percy Harvin

7th – WR Malcolm Floyd (starts from the beginning, and is the #1 for the first 3 weeks of the season. This is my first kinda gamble of the draft, though.)

8th – RB Steve Slaton (Rolling the dice on a partial comeback, since Slaton is the closest thing to a #2 RB that I have.)

9th – WR Johnny Knox

10th – QB Carson Palmer (Hello, potentially trade-able backup)

11th – RB Tim Hightower (should at least keep his spot on goal line carries and 3rd downs, so he should get me reception points and cheap TDs.)

12th – NY Giants Defense (believe it or not, this was the 12th defense taken. Stupid autodrafters.)

13th – WR Jerricho Cotchery (Someone took Jacoby Jones in this round. This is notably funny due to one guy last year, in one of the dumbest transactions I’ve ever seen, dropping Donovan McNabb to get Jones. Brilliant. That’s like dumping an attractive chick to get yourself a big piece of Octomom.)

14th – WR Antonio Bryant (my “What the fuck was I thinking?” pick, since his knee is F’d up and he might be released. Stupid, stupid pick.)

15th – TE Jermaine Greshem

16th – WR Bernard Berrian

17th – WR Nate Burleson (this draft was 21 rounds. The bench has more spots than the starting lineup. Some autodrafter ended up with Will Heller, Detroit’s 3rd string tight end, earlier in this round. Will Heller MIGHT catch 5 passes all year.)

18th – RB Julius Jones

19th – QB Jason Campbell (a wideout from the Titans named Damian Williams was taken in this round, a bit of a notable thing since I have never previously heard of him.)

20th – PK Kris Brown

21st – WR Earl Bennett

Obviously, I’m razor thin at running back. Aside from that, I like the team. As long as Mendenhall keeps chugging away, I should be okay. If he struggles, I’m hooped.

Ooooo… Steve Slaton… too bad. Don’t think he’s going to contribute too much at all. He may have reinjured his neck in the first preseason game.

However, if Arian Foster is still around, you might want to pick him up. He’s going to be awesome.

D’oh! Nope, Foster is gone. I can live with Hightower as my backup runner, but I’ll need to scrounge for something out there once the waiver period is over.

And I’ll keep Foster in mind for my other drafts. :)

And changes have been made! Slaton is gone, and Jerious Norwood (who’s back healthy as Atlanta’s #2) is in. And I dropped Bryant for Mike Thomas, who had a decent rookie year in Jax and has really played well in preseason thus far.

Well I hope your team isn’t wearing black jerseys… They are evil dontcha know?

Assuming Turner stays healthy (pretty big assumption), I don’t really see Norwood getting that many carries. Dude is fast, though.

I’d be interested to see what shakes out at Seahawks camp. Whoever starts there is probably going to get a lot of carries. Same with Cleveland, especially with Jake Delhomme throwing the ball.

Whatever happened to Todd Bouman? Dude had a cannon and a pea-brain. You’d think someone would have held on to him.

Atlanta’s already said they don’t want a repeat of two years ago, when Turner racked up 376 carries. So they are going to spread the ball around.

Yep, Julius should end up getting some carries. I think Harrison probably starts in Cleveland, but he’s not exactly a giant, so it should end up being a bit of a split backfield.

Todd Bouman…what a strange name to bring back from the ether. lol I’d guess he’s running a Dairy Queen somewhere or something these days. :)
