So, with 7 days to go, here’s the field.

MeHere (I won’t be counting any content I put up at Tales of Avarice or elsewhere for the purposes of the Challenge)

BradKick me out Soon (Does this title still count when he moves out of the States?)

ChadThe Grind

Kelly‘Round the Bend

KimIn Desperate Need of Entertainment (I just realized that I don’t know if she means she needs entertainment, or if it’s a self deprecating thing where she’s saying anyone going there must be desperate for entertainment)

Kyle – Blog (Yep, that’s really the name)

Liam – In the Now

ShaunExpedition of Truths

TammyTam I Am

Is that everyone? Have I missed anybody? Does anyone else wish to participate? I’d like to have this nailed down before leaving on Friday, if possible. And feel free to invite other people, if you want. Brad’s in on this because I know him, so you can definitely do the same if you want to. I’d like to keep this somewhat reasonable in size, though.

Finally, anyone have anything else they’d like to bring up? Chad had suggested perhaps using some ‘global topics’ that we would all need to talk about. I suppose we could do a mix of that and the usual ‘write what you want’ stuff. Does that idea interest anybody? If so, what would you prefer :

-Certain topics locked down for certain days that everyone has to talk about on that day.

-Certain topics that everyone has to cover at some point during the Challenge.

Let me know what you think of that idea, or if you have any others you want to suggest. We need to get this nailed down before the weekend, because most of us won’t be around this weekend, so the sooner the better. :)

I like the idea of maybe posting ideas that could be used, but forcing people to write about something that they aren't necessarily interested in (whattya mean, you don't want to blog about the 1994 Houston Oilers?) isn't going to invigourate those people at all. And isn't that what this is about?

  • http://grindingpixels.blogspot.com/ Chad

The shared topics would be way more generic like “list your 3 favourite songs and why you like them” or something similar.

  • Qikdraw

As long as its not nailed down into a specific day I'd be up for that. Maybe have a list of 5-10 topics that have to be covered, but at any time during the 30 days.

  • http://www.peerpressureworks.com Cliff

Okay, do we have any specific ones we'd like to cover? I like the idea of having a few general topics that need to be covered whenever ya feel like it. But if we're going to do that, it needs to be kept very, VERY general.

  • http://expeditionoftruths.com/ Shaun

I like the fact they have to be covered at some point during the challenge.

  • Qikdraw

How about this one? If you could play only one game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? Rawr.

But favourite movies, books, music, actors, etc.. is pretty general. Maybe first movie/tv star crush (when you were little), I'd bang him/her (when your older)? Maybe pick one through each of the 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's. Maybe that as a theme, that for each decade you have to pick favourite movies, books, etc… ? Us older people will have to write more cause some of you youngins weren't even alive back then.

  • http://twitter.com/hadaad hadaad

I dunno. I was thinking of going with a theme for my month of blog posts. I'm kinda against enforcing required topics.
That said, if it's something people want to do, I'll toe the line.

  • http://twitter.com/hadaad hadaad

I like the idea of bloggers throwing down gauntlets over the course of the challenge, like saying: I challenge everyone (or one in particular) to write a post longer than 600 words, or I challenge X to write about the BP oilspill and its ramifications on the Louisiana Scouting Movement.

  • http://www.peerpressureworks.com Cliff

I am a big fan of this suggestion! Of course, I'm also blessed with an ability to bullshit.

There would have to be limits to this, otherwise this entire challenge could easily boil down to gauntlet tossing and the like. It's a good idea, though.

  • http://twitter.com/hadaad hadaad

Maybe the opportunity has to exist to refuse the gauntlet on the grounds of ridiculousness. Then, there will be a tribunal (everyone else) and whatever the decision is haunts the losing party for the rest of the competition (whether it be because of ridicule, or a loss of awesome points, or whatever.)

  • http://www.peerpressureworks.com Cliff

Unsurprisingly, I favor any concept that contains ridicule and scorn.

  • http://grindingpixels.blogspot.com/ Chad

Ultimately, I thought the shared topic idea would just be a way to learn stuff about the other bloggers. If people had an idea in mind already for their posts (like Liam), I don't want to say it's mandatory or anything. I think keeping it really simple (and mostly positive) is the best way to go. Writing about your favourite whatever (song, book, movie, video game, etc) would be just enough to spark an idea.

  • http://www.peerpressureworks.com Cliff

Yeah, that sounds good to me. While I would really struggle to pick my 3 favorite songs ever (because it's a moving target for me), I do have a few ideas for how I can take that basic question and run with it a little. :)

I probably will be covering that. I am definitely planning to re-visit my “Worst movies I've ever seen” list, because that's a topic I can always come back to. I'll probably do the same with games cause holy crap have I wasted time on some pieces of shit in that realm. :) Empire Ave is going to get a big post at some point.

And honestly, I probably will 'lift' an idea that I see someone else use and that I really like.

I told liam verbally this last weekend my intention to participate, so as a very late comer to this whole thing, I gladly accept any rules decided. Only, were any rules decided upon?
I like the idea of global topic themes on certain days, or other challenges. Was this already decided upon?
Even if I am completely ignorant of the whole rules and whatnot, at least I plan to audit the course. I'll be like the funny kid on the side of the soccer field with a baseball playing catch by myself.

  • http://www.peerpressureworks.com Cliff

The only real rules…at least one post a day, 150 words. That's it. We didn't really go in to 'these days are for these topics' sorts of things, so it'll mostly be borrowing ideas from someone else that you can slam out as content when you're hard up for something. At least, that's how I plan to use it. :)
