What I’m Playing

Yes, it’s true. This has never previously happened to me. I know, that’s probably a bit astounding to those of you who visit here regularly (at least I tell myself that you exist…). What with my incredibly foul mouth, snarky nature and the enjoyment I get from truly biting in to someone (figuratively, not literally. I mean, sure, there was that one time, but I had rabies…really!), I should have been banned from DOZENS of web forums by now!

Nope. Never before. This is a new one to me. The HILARIOUS part of it all is that this is a new forum made up of people who just left a previous site due to the heavy handedness of those in charge of THAT place. So it’s kind of like the Americans winning the Revolutionary War and gaining their freedom from the oppression of the British Empire only to turn around and beat up one of their own because he’s a Jew.

Actually…erm…it was the 18th Century, so that probably would have happened. And I’m not Jewish. That was basically the worst analogy I’ve ever used, but I’m too lazy to change it so…moving on!

So anyway, what was it that got me banned from this place? Well as luck would have it, one of the things this site’s software does is email you when you HAVE been banned, linking back to the material that earned it. So I can actually paste the entire post in here. Yes, it’s still up. Apparently it was ban worthy but going so far as to remove it would be too strenuous or something.

Prepare yourselves…obviously this is going to be FOUL if it brought about such a reaction! Oh, the topic of discussion was web based operating systems. I know, I know, truly a subject wrought with peril.

I already do a lot of my word processing/brainstorming/task list stuff online. Right now, some friends and I are planning our next podcast, using Google Wave (which is now open to anyone, in case people didn’t know that). I like to get things started up in Google Doc a lot of the time, or work up interview questions or the like there. It’s a lot simpler setting it up on that and then linking or emailing others to it and having them edit than endlessly exchanging emails make and forth and having someone end up doing just that anyway. I’d do more of it if Brad wasn’t afraid the Big Bad Google Monster was apparently going to steal his ideas or something…

So anyway, long story short…I don’t have a lot of privacy concerns with much of the stuff I’m working on anyway. I’m curious about how a Web OS will work, but with the sheer number of games I play these days, that’s concern #1. If it’s going to involve more work from my end to make the massive stockpile that I purchase in a year work, it probably isn’t going to be something I’m interested in. If I only played a couple of games…sure, maybe it’d be worth the trouble.

And thanks for reminding me that it’s system cleanup time.

WOW. Pretty horrid, right?! Can you still see? Are you left weeping on the floor, my scathing words burning your soul and sending your will to live seeping out of your pores? Could you even bring yourself to read through all of it?

Frankly, I don’t blame you if you couldn’t as it really is a pretty lame post. Hell, it hurts me to read the damn thing. But I’m trying to determine what was ban worthy from that and sort of struggling to find…anything.

Yep, THAT pile of milquetoast mutterings earned me a forum ban. THAT. I haven’t edited out another paragraph where I called another user’s mother a cunt whore, I haven’t substituted in a less offensive post for the one that earned me a ban (I kind of wish there WAS a better post to put here. Seriously, that one is AWFUL. No more posting things right before going to bed…), nothing of the sort. Kind of hilarious that for all my invective laced rants, something like that is what gets me booted from somewhere. It’s like being kicked out of a restaurant because they don’t like the colour of your shirt…sure it’s their right, but it’s kind of stupid.

Anyway, rather ridiculous. I don’t know, maybe it will turn out to be a glitch…but that’s a pretty specific glitch.

Hey. You used a smiley face.

    TWICE.

I’m surprised a black van hasn’t shown up outside your house.

Watch your back Cliffy… watch your back.

Wow. That was truly harsh. I have been to many a coffee where I hung my head in shame being associated with you, but now … now I just cry.

Hey, you should have shot me an email! I just found out Warnie did it entirely by accident, caused by an mistake with a FireFox addon. So, nonononono, we are not like that “other” site…

  • kelly

So would that be twice in his life Cliff was a “Happy Accident” :)

  • midfingr

    Hi, Cliff
I am truly sorry as this was a complete accident. I would never ban anyone, ever, not in a million years; bots are of course excluded. In any case, hell would have to freeze over before even thinking of banning you… it makes absolutely no sense.

As you may or may not know, I’m colour blind and didn’t see these extremely dangerous one-click admin buttons. One of the mods was messing around with a Firefox add-on and hit one of those buttons. As it turns out, it’s function is to ban a user without question.

Again, I’m deeply sorry and hope you understand as we all love having you on the site.

    In Kind,

    Midfingr

Of course you love me…I’m fantastic! :)

It’s all good then. I shall return…hopefully in a less douchey manner than MacArthur!

Kelly : Well played, you bastard…well played.

Yes, Cliff, I´m thinking about suggesting Dan see those buttons for yourself, they are small and if you are browsing with a laptop which has a poor touch based mouse which usuually makes left clicks by accident, you may end causing unwanted trouble. It was another mod, but it could have been me.

Buttons removed. Now is way harder to enter into the ban hammer, so no accidents can happen now.

    Later
    Blade
