And with a title like that, still whiter than a motherfucker. Oh, Purple, Dark Blue and Green are now under AI control. I don’t know if the AI is good or not. If it is, I’m probably screwed.
Aside from that, not a ton has changed from the last turn. I’ve discovered that those Northern stars are big on resources. I’m not moving in any closer to Purple, simply because he provides a barrier against the furthest North player, who has to go through him to get to me. I’ve built up my Industry a bit up there, purely for defensive fleet purposes.
Orange and I are up against each other in the Southwest, and the same is true of Yellow and I in the South. The distances in the South are great enough that investing in more Range research would be necessary. Also, Orange has moved in aggressively towards Yellow AND towards Green in the West. And I realized something.
There is no way in Hell he has a central, powerful fleet. He’s going all in on expansion, and that likely means he’s fairly spread out at the moment. The only fleet he has on our border consists of ten ships. I have enough defensive power built up on our border stars that he really can’t attack right now from that direction. That means I have to move on Dark Blue in the Northwest, otherwise he’ll keep sliding North and eventually threaten my borders from 180 degrees of star space. So I keep pushing North. The stars up there are resource rich, anyway. Meanwhile, I’m going to park my fleets in the South and Southwest, using those stars as defensive pickets and sending my carriers back and forth from there to my home worlds, where they can pick up more ships and move them up to beef up the barrier.
Oh, I DID hear back from Yellow. Seems that Orange told him to attack Red in the south…he doesn’t trust him any more than I do. The truth is, Yellow could have moved up in to my Southern area before I got a chance if he really wanted to, so I tend to believe he also sees Orange as a primary threat right now. Anyway, I want to keep things with him cordial…he can only expand at this point by moving South at Red, West at Orange, or North at me. Unless he invests in Range research, North isn’t a great option. But I’d still like to keep it friendly.
So, to recap…I’m going to be filling in that ‘gap’ between North and Northwest (though I’m skipping low income stars at this point), and keep pushing towards Dark Blue. I have enough Range to do it…BARELY, though I’ll have to move North, then cut to the West. Those Southwest stars are becoming defensive hubs…they’re worthless aside from that…and I’m doing the same in the Northeast. I’m evening out my investments now between Industry and Economy, which is working out well so far. More money next turn means more money to keep developing those rich Northern stars I’m moving in to. And that is where the attack fleet against Dark Blue is going to be built as I advance.
