IT BEGINS!

Yes, it’s that ultimate cop out to begin The Utterly Mediocre Blog-a-thon of 2009…the ‘Let’s talk about what I’ll write about at a later time’ post! Weeeee! This thing DRIPS enthralling!

So, just to explain the idea : every day for the next 31 days, I need to post an entry that is a minimum of 150 words long. Actually, I just handily noticed that WordPress actually has a word counter that updates every time it auto-saves my draft entry…I had never even noticed that before! Cool. Anyway yeah, every day for a month I will be trying to offer up something.

The first thing I’m realizing : 31 days is a long damn time. The second…Liam is a cunning opponent. He has scheduled this whole exercise to run during the time the Canadian Parliament is off for summer break. What the Hell am I going to blather about with such a limited chance of Jack Layton uttering a single stupid phrase in to a brace of waiting cameras??? There’s also no REAL chance for cop out entries about football, fantasy or otherwise, since that won’t really be fully cranked up for awhile either. Well played, Herr Johnstone. Well played.

What WILL I blog about? Well, I’m sure there’s plenty of material to be found in the always fertile world of politics even with the Canadian Federal guys all off playing with their little friends and riding in the station wagon while dad drives them across the country to visit Grandma. I haven’t posted any geek-a-licious updates on what games I’m playing for quite some time. I can always ramble on semi coherently about TV or movies. Now that I’m setting up my own Fantasy Football league, that’s some new material to cover…and I can ramble about sports a tad.  I have a few other things in mind, but we’ll see how it goes.

Oh, and seeing as this is a CHALLENGE, there must be other people involved, right? Let’s take a look at the challengers (as of Thursday night when I’m writing this, anyway)…

1. Liam. Probably the biggest threat. His having kids gives him a constantly refreshing font for things to write about.

2. Chad. I’d put him behind only Liam. He CLAIMS he may not have enough material, but his long career playing World of Warcraft will no doubt give him something to fall back on to.

3. Shaun. IF he intentionally wanders in to situations that will enrage him, he’s a threat. Otherwise, I don’t know that he’ll be able to sustain once the rants are gone.

4. Vlad. This man’s ‘blog’ has basically functioned for eternity as nothing more than a one stop feed shop from everyone else’s blog. He’s a content poacher. Of course, he MIGHT have been biding his time and saving ideas up…if Vlad weren’t also lazy.

As for myself? Well, a lack of topics on which to rant for a month may be an impediment to myself as well. Basically, I have one mission…to avoid this blog being transformed by the fire of competition in to something akin to this :
