I do agree that those would be nice things to see in a candidate...the problem is that the very process of running for office tends to beat those sorts of qualities OUT of people. Year after year of basically begging for donations, agreeing to give a little here for a little something there, and so on and so forth would tend to numb most people. Obama sort of got by that by simply not having so much time in office that the bureaucracy has had a chance to beat him down yet.

So that's sort of the choice...do we want someone who still has that fire, or do we want someone who has a voice of experience? Unfortunately it's often an either/or kind of question.

Of course one could rather handily replace Harper, Layton, May and Duceppe (Ignatieff really hasn't had a chance to show anything good or bad, yet, so I'll give him a little time) with 4 various types of cheese and see a definite improvement in governance. :)

LOL Obamalover.

To my defense to my statement on my blog about where is our Obama, first I didn't say he was an awesome president yet. Mainly I'd like to see Canadians get as excited as the Americans did for the political process. Not saying we need someone black, or someone exactly like Barack, although we do need someone who is a great speaker (which nobody in our current government is) and someone who is charismatic(see my previous ()'s). If we can have someone like that then maybe there is a hope.

I don't remember quite the same level of worship for Dubya when he first popped up, though. Clinton in his first term really didn't get a ton of fawning (well, except from chubby interns)...it wasn't until term 2 when he rode a hot economy he really had nothing to do with to superstardom.

Oh, and bonus points for adding to my 'Obama wants 4th Reich' with your 'Obama Likes Fucking Kids' bit. :)

Chad : Amusingly, the folks at the Rapture Ready forums are WAY ahead of you when it comes to the 'Obama...is he the Devil?' bit (I think I pointed that out already in my 'Nutjobs R Us' post).

In closing, the man can speak...now let's see what he can DO.

The United States has a predilection for treating their presidents as a Gods that can do anything. Then later on they get bitter and disappointed later on when it turns out they can't make miracles happen. It's like, get off your own asses and do something instead of wishing that the wunderkid will do it for you.

But that said, Obama is incredibly charismatic and Canada is so very bound to what the U.S. does, especially economically. It would be preferable if Canada acted more like a 22 year old girl instead of a 15 year old one. But either way we've got the same sugar daddy.

Wow, I just made that creepy. haha..
