What I’m Playing

Random Quote

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities. — Dr. Seuss

Kind of an interesting site I’ve come across, here. Basically, you put in the month and day of your birthday, and it lists the #1 song on that day every year it’s been measured.

Here’s my list, as an example…I’ll copy from ’76 on.

2008 … “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry
2007 … “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s
2006 … “Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland

THE 1970s

1978 … “Shadow Dancing” by Andy Gibb
1977 … “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” by Andy Gibb
1976 … “Kiss and Say Goodbye” by The Manhattans

I’d never heard of the Manhattans song, but it’s one of those awesome ones with the bass narrative line going “Girl, I know you’ve got to leave me, baby, so come here and let me hold you in my arms just one last time”, so that’s pretty cool. The remainder of the 70[‘s were an abomination. The 80′s…look at that fuckin’ run from ’81-’85! Unfortunately, then we move on from there…sure, I’m proud to have Mix a Lot reppin’ my b-day, but the rest of that…THE MACARENA? A BRANDY chart topper? Christina Aguilera? That fucking Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood!?!!? Puff Daddy’s lone hit (although, it’s creepy that the main sample of that track is from Every Breath You Take…and if you look at 1983…), NELLY, 2 FUCKING USHER SONGS?!

If there is a God, he’s a jerk.

  • It appears there is no 'Gilded Birthday', which has nothing but hits you can be proud of. All must bear the burden of painful memories of really, really bad music.
  • I managed to get the Star Wars theme and a Milli Vanilli song, a few decent songs, or at least ones which have had lasting airplay. Jack & Diane, Money for Nothing, My Sharona, Play that Funky Music. Yep, Sept 26 is sucky and awesome!
  • Yeah, everyone goes in figuring "Oh, I'll get some Sabbath, maybe some Nirvana, a little Wille Nelson...and you end up with second rate Swede pop groups and Usher.
  • Aaaah!

My birthday is graced by shining stars such as Kris Kross, Ace of Base, and the Bee Gees.

    Terrible. Just terrible.
  • Jesus, Harll...you've got Kenny Rogers 'Lady', 2 Lionel Richie tracks, and Wake Me Up Before You Go Go...you're no worse off than I am.
  • I'd feel worse for you if you hadn't had the 80s. But yeah, your list is 25% not crap.
  • Kelly
You think you had a bunch of crap? I think the highlights of my list are Wham and a Kenny Rogers song or two. Check out Nov. 24
