What I’m Playing

So, we’ll do the first…first. Shocking…no.

You may all recall that, when I first left ATS, my first step was to blind fire a couple of resumes off to a couple of airport cargo brokers, one of which was BBE. Well, out of the blue, wanna guess who called me on Tuesday? No…no…it wasn’t Gilbert Gottfried. Or Chuck Liddell. Seriously, you guys are awful at this game. You flat out suck. Those were the names you came up with? (More to the point, those were the first two random names that popped in to my head? What the Hell is wrong with ME?)

Anyway, I figured I’d call the guy back, at least, and tell him sorry, but he missed his shot. Then he started selling me on the gig…and it was a pretty solid gig. So, I changed my mind, and decided to meet with him today. Anyway, he offered me the job, if I want it.

It would mean a rather substantial pay raise from what I’m making now, which would help build up the ol’ bank account a lot faster. I’d also get benefits the instant I sign the human resources paperwork, which is pretty goddamn impressive, as well. I am very, very strongly leaning towards taking it. If I DO, I’ll probably stick around Leduc for a year or so, find a place here in the fall. So, probably, yes…definitely, ???…no goddamn idea. I am determined, though, to decide officially by tomorrow, so if I decide to move on, I can tell the current place.

Anyway, THAT is NOTHING. Now we get to the roll of the dice, as in, gambling, as in…time for a pool!

As I’m sure everyone knows by now, James and Janine are going to be parents (if you didn’t know, you do now. And don’t complain to me that you’ve been too fucking busy to hang out, and haven’t given them a goddamn chance to tell you in person. It ain’t my fault you’re self obsessed, dickbag!)

So, according to the doc, Janine’s due to delivery on Dec. 10th. Obviously, we need to have a pool. Now, PERSONALLY, I would like to make things a little interesting…everyone throws in, say, 5 bucks (so it’s not enough money to give people an excuse to pussy out), winner takes all. Only one person can select a date…and that’s pretty much the entire set of rules.

As I’m starting this, I get to pick first…and I pick Dec. 7th. No reason for that pick, really, except it somehow seems fitting that James becomes a father on the anniversary of Pearl Harbour. I’m such a jerk.

So, who’s got what?

That’s awesome, did they promise no bullshit like ATS? If so then fucking take it. Benefits starting when you sign, that’s kick ass. More and more people are doing that, they have to.

    I’ll pick December 14.

Yeah, more companies are starting to improve their overall employment package to compete.

This wouldn’t be the same kind of deal as ATS…the place is located on the airport service road, not the airport proper, though there would be a bit of airport driving (mostly just out on the nearby tarmac pad). All cargo, too…amusingly, one of the carriers they deal with is Northwest, who, of course, are also an ATS client. I found that kind of funny, though I’m not entirely sure why.

Anyway, I have decided I’m going to take it. It’s going to pay about $3.50/hr. BETTER than the job I already had, and the guy made it very clear that’s just a starting wage. As long as I work hard (which I do), that will go up. Like I said, I love the immediate benefits. I also had the chance to talk to a couple of the more senior warehouse guys while I was there, away from the interviewer, and they were telling me that since he and a couple other new managers came in a few months back, things have improved a lot…so it’s sort of an opposite to what the deal ended up being an ATS.

And I will put you down for the 14th…once I get some more picks (by the way, James, you ARE allowed to make a pick, though any inducement of birth on that day forfeits your win. If you do that to win, I swear, I will burn your winnings right in front of you), I’ll find a calendar plugin and put everyone’s choice on it.

This pool needs more rules, like every pick is for midnight of that day and the winner is the person who is over or under by the least number of hours from the actual birth time. And in the case of a tie the winner will be the contestant with the most children themselves. If that isn’t a fair rule I don’t know what is. As for my pick… I’ll wait a little longer to divulge my secret strategy.

You and your ‘rules’…living under the man and all. Free your MIND, maaaaannnnnn!

It’s staying simple…pick the right day, you win. Only if NOBODY picks the right day will it go to a ‘who’s closer?’ tiebreak.

Well, I’ll put that down, despite the fact it’s a complete and utter fool’s errand.

I don’t start until the 7th, but I will immediately attempt to ascertain the Phil population.

I’m joining the pool. I’m choosing Dec 15. First babies are always late, the little punks.

I really don’t know whether Janine is allowed to make a pick…hmmmm…I’m going to leave it up to the group, here. Is she, or isn’t she, allowed in?

Ok Janine how’s this: My unofficial and be-kind-to-Janine date is Dec 1 because it’s nice to deliver a little bit early. In reality though, I think you’ll definitely go past so I’m keeping my official choice as the 15th.

I totally think I should get to vote. If I choose to induce labour then I don’t win. But I really don’t think I get a choice in any of it … either the baby or the doctor will make all the decisions for me.

I’ll provide some on my blog too but it would be nice to hear how work is going for you.
