Well, I finally got the chance to watch the Season 4 Premiere of Battlestar Galactica tonight, and, not surprisingly, it was pretty bloody good.
Baltar seems to have made the transformation from a completely self-obsessed dick to something of a Mohammed figure, seeing as his new surroundings bear a striking resemblance to the Islamic idea of heaven for martyrs, and his role seems to be spreading the ‘true faith’ to mankind. I also noticed that the music seemed to take on a bit of a Mid-East flavor in most of his scenes, although I could just be grasping for straws there. Actually, though, since through a large part of the series it has come across quite clearly that the Cylon side is more in line with the Middle or Far East in history, while the humans resemble more of the West. (This makes me wonder…where is the African representation? I DEMAND a ‘third race’ to appear, one with comically overstated racial tones. Perhaps my beloved ‘Spine dicked Terralians’, who could spout off about breaking it off in a motherfucker? On second thought, this would fit in much better in a George Lucas production, where they could easily mingle with his ‘They aren’t Asian stereotypes, really’ Asian stereotype fish people from the trade collective, or whatever the fuck they were called).
One question to ponder…let’s say that ‘The 4′ didn’t find out they were, in fact, Cylons. So, the huge battle ensues, only, when the Cylon Raider wheels around and goes face to face with Anders’ ship, Anders doesn’t signal the Cylon to his true identity, because he isn’t aware of it. Do the Cylons then press the attack and obliterate mankind? And is THAT the reason that ‘The 4′ became aware of who they were, to thwart such a cataclysmic end (and to avoid a ten minute bloodbath that would add up to the crappiest season of a network television program in history)?
Obviously, this is a rather minor question in the overall arc of the show, but that’s because I’m tired, and don’t feel much like delving in to the deeper subtexts of anything but my bed at the moment.
To make a long blathering much shorter…season 4 started, and it was good.
